1) Clear Mindset
Accept you can't do everything and be everything to everyone. Focus on what you can do and do it well.
2) Prioritize Value
Focus on activities around organizational strength and biggest business impact (value); Information dissemination or skills development?; Performance support or deep immersive learning innovation?
3) Manage Your Resources
Are the majority of resources (people, tools, and systems) aligned to your organizational strength and priorities? Allocate accordingly.
4) Negotiate Trade-offs
Sometimes saying no is not an option so use the “Yes and…” technique. “Yes, I can do this if it is important, and what I need from you (requestor) to make this happen is……” (resources, dropping another project, sponsorship, etc…)
5) Measure Your Success
Just like working all day doesn't mean you are productive, producing learning experiences (material) all day doesn't mean it will make a difference to the business. At the end of the day what business outcome will make you and your sponsor a hero?
