Sure some are naturally better than others, but the good news is that the skills are just that: skills. And they can be learned, practiced, and mastered like any other skill.
Jill Konrath is a good person to follow for sales tips. Just substitute yourself (learning practitioner) as the sales person and your stakeholders as the customer and in most cases the tips apply. In her recent article How to Consistently Accelerate the Buying Decision she targets “struggling to get buy-in” as an issue. Take a look at her suggestions.
You can also learn more about selling solutions focused on L&D using the 3G skills (Get Information, Give Information, Gain Commitment). If you want to practice these skills for gaining buy-in (shhh, don’t call it selling) then join me and other learning leaders at the Getting to Yes! workshop on Oct 27th in Seattle.
Happy selling internally!
